How to register for the inburgeringsexamen via Mijn Inburgering

You register for the inburgeringsexamen (civic integration exam) via Mijn Inburgering (DigiD with SMS verification or the DigiD app). There you choose a date and location for A2 language exams, KNM or ONA. First check in Mijn Inburgering — and, under Wet inburgering 2021, in your PIP — which exams you need to take.

Where do you register? (direct answer)

According to DUO / inburgeren.nl:

In short: for most people who want to register for the inburgeringsexamen, the path is: DigiD → Mijn Inburgering → choose an exam → date and location.

What do you need before you register?

Sort this out first — then registering for the inburgeringsexamen goes more smoothly:

1. Know which exams you must take
   Check Mijn Inburgering. Under Wet inburgering 2021 this also appears in your personal plan (PIP) with the municipality. Unsure about A2 or another track? Read Which civic integration exam do I need? and always verify your own overview at DUO.

2. DigiD with SMS verification or the DigiD app
   To log in to Mijn Inburgering you need, according to DUO, a DigiD with SMS verification, or the DigiD app. Apply at digid.nl. More detail: Logging in to Mijn Inburgering.

3. Up-to-date contact details in Mijn Inburgering
   DUO says it helps if your address, email and phone number in Mijn Inburgering are correct. That way they can contact you when they need to.

4. Space in your calendar
   DUO says: register well in advance. It can take more than 6 weeks before you can sit the exam. The registration page does not list a fixed wait time per city. You choose the date and location in Mijn Inburgering.

Step by step: how registration works (high level)

This is the overview from the official registration page. Exact button names in Mijn Inburgering may differ slightly; the path stays the same.

Step 1 — Log in to Mijn Inburgering

Go to Mijn Inburgering and log in with DigiD (SMS or app). In Mijn Inburgering you can, among other things:

• see which exams you need to take
• register for an exam
• change location, date or time
• view results and letters from DUO

Step 2 — Choose the right exam (part)

Choose, for example, Reading, Listening, Writing, Speaking, KNM or ONA — only what applies to you. Doing B1/B2? Follow the Nt2 route, not this A2 path.

Step 3 — Choose date and location

In Mijn Inburgering you choose the date and location of the exam.

Step 4 — Confirmation

After registering you receive, according to DUO, a confirmation by email and by letter. If you register via Mijn Inburgering, you also see the exam date there. One week before the exam you get another letter with location, date and time.

Registering with a form? Then, according to DUO, you get a letter within 3 weeks after you have paid for the exam, with location, date and time.

Step 5 — Change or cancel (if needed)

Cannot make it after all? For A2 exams, according to DUO:

• You can change location or date in Mijn Inburgering until 1 week before the exam.
• You can also cancel. If you do that until 1 week before the exam, you get, according to DUO, your money back.
• No Mijn Inburgering? Send a letter to DUO Servicecentrum Inburgering (address on the official page); DUO must have that letter 1 week before the exam.

What do you do while you wait? (practice)

After you register for the civic integration exam, it can, according to DUO, take more than 6 weeks before you can sit the exam. You can use that time to practise.

On inburgeren.nl – Practice you will find A2 practice exams for Writing, Speaking, Listening, Reading and KNM. Start there if you want to feel the official format.

Then practise short and often
For repetition that fits a lunch break, practise with questions in exam format:

A2 or another exam? Check your track

Not everyone takes the same set. Under Wet 2013 / 2021 and depending on your start date, Reading, Listening, Writing, Speaking, KNM, ONA, PVT or MAP (gemeente) may play a role. Exact list: Mijn Inburgering (and PIP under Wet 2021).

Fees: only what DUO publishes

Exam fees depend on your situation (including which law applies, asylum status, attempt, and level in your PIP). DUO publishes amounts on How much does inburgering cost?. Example from that public table (always check the current page before you pay):

• Writing, Speaking, Listening, Reading, KNM: € 50,- per exam (as shown in the DUO table)
• ONA: € 40,- (as shown in the DUO table)
• Under Wet inburgering 2021, for people with asylum status the first 2 attempts of each exam can be free — unless you take an exam at a lower level than in your PIP. Details and exceptions: official payment page + Mijn Inburgering.

On exam day (brief)

Read Exam rules and your invitation letter. According to DUO, bring a valid ID; without valid ID you may not take the exam. In the room, staff explain the rules.
